IP PORTFOLIO STRATEGY
Build a patent portfolio that holds up when it matters.
Most portfolio advice comes from firms paid to file more patents. Ours comes from 25 years of drafting, prosecuting, opinion, and PTAB work, so every recommendation is tested against how patents are actually enforced and challenged. We help in-house counsel, founders, and boards decide what to protect, what to enforce, and what to stop paying for.
What we do
Portfolio assessment
Which patents and claims are strong, which are vulnerable, and why.
Enforcement readiness
Whether key patents would survive a validity challenge and read on competitor products.
Continuation and claim strategy
Keeping families alive so claims can cover competitor products as they appear.
Competitive landscape
Competitor patents, freedom-to-operate risk, and whitespace for new filings.
Licensing and monetization
Identifying assets with licensing or sale value.
Maintenance and pruning
Where to cut maintenance fees and where to invest.

IP diligence for transactions and financing
Investors, lenders, and acquirers need to know what a patent portfolio is really worth. We review ownership and chain of title, claim scope against the business and its competitors, validity risk and any prior IPR or reexamination history, and encumbrances such as licenses and liens.
WHY IT MATTERS
A portfolio built only to issue patents is not the same as a portfolio built to be enforced.
Every claim we recommend is tested against how examiners and the courts will read it.

Frequently asked questions
What is a patent portfolio audit?
A review of each patent's claim scope, validity risk, and commercial relevance, so you can see which assets support the business and which do not.
How often should a portfolio be reviewed?
Before major filings, financings, or acquisitions, and at least every few years as products and competitors change.
What does IP diligence cover in a financing?
Ownership and chain of title, claim scope against the business, validity risk and any prior IPR or reexamination history, freedom-to-operate concerns, and encumbrances such as licenses and security interests.
Do you replace our prosecution counsel?
No. We advise on portfolio, continuation, and claim strategy and work alongside your prosecution counsel.
How are engagements billed?
On an hourly basis, scoped in an engagement letter after a conflicts check. We do not offer fixed-fee packages.
